Onsite Accommodation Camp Services

Orana Engineering was engaged by Oaky Creek Coal Mine in Central Queensland to assist with the design and construction of an onsite accommodation camp on the mine lease, including primarily the HV substation for power supply and potable water storage & supply.

Orana Engineering performed the mechanical, electrical and control systems design, drafting and engineering for the project.  The primary deliverables for the project included scope of works documents, construction drawings, a functional specification document, drawing and equipment registers, commissioning & operating spares lists and equipment & instrument data sheets.  For a complete collation of project documentation, an Operation & Maintenance Manual was provided on project completion for both the potable water storage facility and the HV substation.

The potable water storage facility required new storage tanks, potable water supply from the existing water treatment plant (WTP) and a pump station to supply potable water to the new onsite accommodation camp.  The storage tanks were of suitable construction for storing potable water (internal liner) and appropriately sized for the proposed camp demand.  The facility required a potable water supply from the WTP, which involved tie-ins to the WTP and the installation of a new 2.5km pipeline.  The pump station included staged electric pumps to meet the varying demand within the new camp, and a diesel fire pump for emergencies.

The HV switchyard was required to distribute power to the onsite accommodation camp from the existing 11kV site reticulation system, and was suitably located adjacent to an existing HV pole.  The enclosure included a transformer, distribution board, earthing grid and security fencing.  Additionally, Orana Engineering provided PLC configuration and commissioning assistance for the pump control system.

Orana Engineering used AutoCAD to produce a drawing set for shop fabrication, general arrangement and installation drawings for civil, mechanical, electrical and control system components.  The drawing set was issued for client approval prior to being revised and issued for construction as well as providing as-built drawings.  Orana Engineering also performed a Client Representative role during construction, managed the onsite commissioning of the system, and provided a system handover to operations for implementation.
